What Is a SERP?
A SERP, short for Search Engine Results Page, is the page a search engine displays after someone runs a query. It typically includes organic results, and often paid ads, featured snippets, knowledge panels, and, increasingly, an AI-generated summary above everything else.
What can appear on a modern SERP besides the ten blue links?
Google's results pages can include paid ads, a featured snippet pulled from one page's content, image and video carousels, a local map pack for location-based queries, a knowledge panel, and an AI Overview summarizing multiple sources. Which elements appear depends on the query's intent and Google's confidence in generating them.
This is why 'ranking #1' means less than it used to. A page can hold the top organic position and still sit below several other SERP features competing for the same attention.
